Cabinet approves request for proposals For first phase of Ruwanpura Expressway

The Cabinet on 19 December approved the calling of tender proposals for the commencement of the construction of the first phase of the Ruwanpura Expressway.

The Expressway from Kahathuduwa to Pelmadulla will be 73.9 kilometres (km) in length. The construction will take place in four phases. The initial phase is from Kahathuduwa to Ingiriya, a distance of 26.30 km. The China National Technical Import and Export Corporation will commence requests for proposals, according to a proposal put forward by Minister of Higher Education and Highways Lakshman Kiriella, which the Cabinet has since approved. The Ministry plans to conclude construction within three years.

The second phase from Ingiriya to Kahengama (21 km) will be handled by the China National Aero-Technology International Engineering Corporation, while the third phase from Kahengama to Bela (12.70 km) will be handled by the Human Construction Engineering Group Corporation and the fourth and final phase from Bela to Pelmadulla (13.90 km) handled by the China Harbour Engineering Company Limited.
