US Presidential Election: Donald Trump wins North Carolina and leads Hillary

1895668498jhgu333Republican candidate Donald Trump is advancing further ahead of Democrat rival Hillary Clinton in the surprisingly close race for the White House, with key states such as New Hampshire and Pennsylvania too close to call.

Key points:

Voting has been completed in more than two-thirds of the 50 US states.

Donald Trump is currently leading Hillary Clinton. Republicans are expected to retain control of the House of Representatives.

Mr Trump has claimed Ohio and Florida and is also projected to win North Carolina.

Mrs Clinton has won Colorado and its nine electoral votes, and Virginia.

However, Mr Trump is leading Mrs Clinton by 36 Electoral College votes, according to media reports that put him on 167 votes and Mrs Clinton on 131. There are 538 Electoral College votes allotted to the 50 states and the District of Columbia. It takes 270 votes to win.
