70th anniversary Convention of the UNP today
The 70th Convention of the United National Party (UNP) will be held at the Campbell Park grounds, Borella today, under the patronage of party leader and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe. Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Secretary Duminda Dissnayake together with representatives of other political parties will participate in the event as well.
The Prime Minister is also expected to present a special proposal to the Working Committee with respect of a futuristic plan for the country. The UNP was founded on September 6, 1946 under the leadership of D.S. Senanayake, who became the first Prime Minister of the country later. During the past 70 years, the party represented the Government and the Opposition.
