JVP Charges That The 1180 Million Rupees Supplementary Estimate Violates Good Governance Policy

JVP-640x400The Opposition is objecting to the government’s proposal to parliament of a supplementary estimate of one thousand 180 million rupees to purchase vehicles for 30 ministers, state ministers and deputy ministers of 22 ministries.

The Opposition argues that allocating such a huge amount of money at a time when the country has faced monetary strain is unjustified.

On behalf of the Finance Minister, chief government whip minister Gayantha Karunathilaka presented the estimate.

Under this supplementary estimate, the value of the vehicle allocated for Minister Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka is 70 million rupees.

Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe has also asked for another 70 million rupees for his vehicle.

Ministers Rauff Hakeem, Sarath Amunugama, Vijayamuni Soyza and Ranjith Siyambalapitiya have also asked for 3.5 million rupees each to purchase vehicles.

In addition, several other Cabinet ministers including.

Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, Palani Digambaram, Gamini Jayawickrama Perera, Chandima Weerakkody, Wijayadasa Rajapaksa and D.M. Swaminadan have asked for financial provisions to purchase new vehicles.

At the same time, a group of state ministers and deputy ministers including Sumeda G. Jayasena, Dushmantha Mithrapala, M.L.M. Hisbullah, Sujeeva Senasinghe, Champika Premadasa, T.B. Ekanayake and Indika Bandaranayake have also asked provisions.

Meanwhile the JVP says that this government is also using public money extravagantly, for the government ministers, similar to that of the Rajapaksa government. JVP Propaganda Secretary MP Vijitha Herath said that wastage of public money in this manner is violating the good governance policy.

The minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, Jayawickrama Perera has asked for 70 million rupees provisions to purchase vehicles for him and his deputy minister.
