‘Closure of faculty won’t solve problem’

Student unions demand the reopening of the management faculty of Sabaragamuwa University.

It remains closed after lecturers stayed away from academic activities to protest threats by students.

Lecturers say 80 per cent of attendance at lectures is mandatory in accordance with accepted standards for a quality degree.

Students have threatened dean Dr. Wasantha Ratnayake and the lecturers over the matter.

The dean said he could not accept arguments by students against the mandatory attendance.

Kapuwatte accused the university administration of ignoring students’ requests.
